One of the most thoughtful presents you can give someone is an upgrade to their current space. Imagine the look on their face when they come home after a long day and see the amazing gift you worked on, putting not only your money into the project, but also your time, blood, sweat, and tears. 

There are many room-upgrade options to choose from; it all really just depends on the special person the room is for. Perhaps you have a daughter, young or teenaged, who would be thrilled to get home from school and see a whole new bedroom, or maybe you have a key to your older brother’s house and know he has been wishing for a change to his dining room. 

In this article, however, the focus will be on transforming a room into a man cave, presumably for your significant other or another man in your life. So, without further ado, let’s jump into the details.

Make a Plan

Before you do anything else, you need to draw out the room in detail, including the walls and all windows. This will give you a better idea of where to put all the furniture and décor you will buy, as well as where any modifications will be. For example, perhaps you will be building a bar on one wall in the room. Figure out where this will be. 

While doing this step, you can also start listing out all of the furniture, appliances, and other items you want to buy for the new space. You may want to pick up a comfortable leather recliner, a flat-screen television, a pool table, a desk, a couple of small tables, and a bookshelf. These are all great purchase ideas for any man cave. 

You can fill the bookshelf with books that go along with the theme of the man cave, or ones you simply know the person will enjoy. For instance, if the man cave is based around the theme of football, you can fill the shelves with books about the NFL, the team they love, or the history of the sport. You can also think about getting knick-knacks that are based on this theme.

Extra Touches 

There are some extra touches you can add to the man cave to really make it a special space. If the man in your life enjoys a cigar every now and then, you can think about buying a humidor for their fancy cigars to keep them fresh. You could also get a mini-refrigerator for the space to hold any snacks, beverages, or mixers for cocktails.

Speaking of cocktails, if you decide to build a bar in the man cave, it’s a good idea to stock it up with liquor and/or beers. Put their favorite alcoholic drink components at the bar ready to be enjoyed. 

If this special guy loves gaming, you could think about putting an arcade game in this space, or if he is a music lover, perhaps you could install a sound system so he can jam out while he’s enjoying his little slice of luxury. Whatever special details you add, make sure they are ones that he will love!
