How Much Does It Cost To Paint My Master Bedroom In Billings, MT?

According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average size of a master bedroom for a typical new family home is 309 square feet.

Let’s create a hypothetical master bedroom that is 300 square feet with 8 ft walls. In this example we will look at what it costs to paint the ceilings, walls and trim. This master bedroom will have a one closet with a set of bi-fold doors. The interior of the closet will be excluded from the estimate as most people defer from painting them unless they are too dark or selling the home. We will also be excluding the master bath in this example.

The ceiling in this room is flat with a orange peel texture and there are minimal to no repairs. It will receive two coats of a contractor grade flat paint. Bedroom ceilings don’t take on much wear so the need for a higher end paint with sheen is not necessary.

The walls are 8 ft tall with moderate prep work which consists of filling nail holes and caulking a few small cracks that don’t need to be repaired by patching. Two coats of a mid grade eggshell paint will be used.

The trim would consist of one door and a set of bifold closet doors. There would be two windows that would require the painting of the casing, jamb and sill. Sixty feet of baseboard will be painted in this room. There would be minimal prep work to these surfaces (minor caulking, hole filling and sanding). All surfaces to be brushed and rolled with two coats of a premium grade semi gloss paint. Off site spraying or on site spraying would increase the cost of this process.

Things that would drive the cost of this ceiling up would be patch repair work, smoke, water stains, popcorn texture, and the painting of can light fixtures, moving of heavy furniture. Other factors that would change the price would be the the size and style of windows and room, grade of paint, accent walls, degree of prep work and number of coats of paint.

The price of this room would be around $1,200 – $1,500. There are a lot of variables that go into pricing a room. Just like a snowflake no two master bedrooms are the same.
