Pet-Friendly House Painting

Pet Friendly Paint

If you’re a pet owner, then you know that your furry friends are a part of the family. And just like you want your family to be safe and comfortable in their home, you want your pets to feel at ease too. That’s why we’ve put together this guide on pet-friendly house painting —to help make sure your next painting project goes as smoothly as possible for everyone involved.

Choose the Right Paint

For pet owners, one of the most important considerations when choosing paint for their home is animal safety. Some paints contain harmful chemicals that can be toxic to pets if ingested. Other paints may not be toxic but can still pose a risk if your pet likes to chew on walls or furniture. To be safe, choose a paint that is specifically designed for use in homes with pets or small children. These products will usually list pet or child safety as one of their key features. Look for paints labeled low or no VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Once you’ve found a safe paint, the next step is to choose a color that will complement your home décor.

Prep the Space Properly

Painting your home is a big job—and one that’s even bigger when you have to take your pets into consideration. Whether you’re looking to do a DIY paint job or hiring professional house painters, there are a few extra steps you’ll need to take to prep your space properly. Take the time to properly cover any furniture or flooring in the area. A few drop cloths should do the trick. You’ll also want to remove any pet food and water dishes, as well as any toys or other items that might get in the way. Once your prep work is done, you’re ready to start painting!

Keep an Eye on Your Pets

Even if you’ve taken all the necessary precautions, it’s still important to keep an eye on your pets while the job is being done. If you have hired professional painters, make sure they know that you have pets in the home and ask them to keep an eye out as well. If you’re doing the job yourself, take frequent breaks to check on your furry friends. They may be curious about all the activity and want to investigate!

Keep Your Pets Out of the Way

Before you start painting, make sure all your pet’s toys and food bowls are put away. You don’t want your dog getting underfoot while you’re trying to work. Depending on where you are painting, it may be a good idea to close all doors and windows to keep your pet from interrupting. And if you have an indoor cat, it might be a good idea to put them in a room with food and water until you’re finished painting.

Once you’ve taken these precautions, you can start painting. Work quickly and efficiently to minimize the amount of time your pet has to spend in their “safe room.” And when you’re done for the day, be sure to clean up any paintbrushes and drop cloths before letting your pet out of their room. By following these simple tips, you can keep your pet safe and happy while still getting the job done.
